A son reflects on his relationship to his deceased father in a visual essay that gradually takes the form of a eulogy, which should have been delivered long ago.
With the support of The Canada Council for the Arts, Robby Reis is currently developing a feature length version of this film entitled OUR FATHER, which will expand on the themes explored in the short version.

“Dear J.R., I took another trip to the cemetery today, and I thought you should know, I don’t plan on ever going back.”
-Robby Reis, My Father, 2018

“I spent the next hour wandering around the cemetery. The mausoleums really caught my eye. This one in particular reminded me of you. It was quiet and seemingly happy to be left alone. And it seemed to have somewhat of a dark side, which drew me to it.”
-Robby Reis, My Father, 2018

“They made us pick the clothes that you would wear during the procedure. I laughed. I laughed because I couldn’t understand why you weren’t permitted to leave this earth as naked as the day you entered it.”
-Robby Reis, My Father, 2018

“Ten years you lived with your illness, and not once do I remember you giving up hope or losing faith. Somehow, you spared us that. I’m not sure that we can ever thank you enough for that J.R. Or that you would ever want us to.”
-Robby Reis, My Father, 2018
