Beyond The Wall Of Sleep

Paintings | Mixed Media on Paper | 18″ x 24″

Beyond The Wall Of Sleep is a series of paintings by Robby Reis, which takes its title from a short story by American writer H. P. Lovecraft, written in 1919. Like a feverish dream or a tarot card randomly plucked from a deck, each painting contains a symbol which stands for more than its obvious and immediate meaning. Its significance will be specific to each viewer and thus determined by their own situation.

“I have frequently wondered if the majority of mankind ever pause to reflect upon the occasionally titanic significance of dreams, and of the obscure world to which they belong.”

H. P. Lovecraft, Beyond the Wall of Sleep, 1919
